Our Story

It began with fruit, and the people who made it matter.

Handmade fruit wine being poured, part of the Avéya family tradition
  1. 01

    The family tradition

Before there was a brand, there was a way of making things at home — patiently, and for the people close by.

  2. 02

    Sugar cane wine

Harvey's late grandfather made sugar cane wine. It was the first version of this craft in the family.

  3. 03

    Agnes, watching and learning

Agnes learned by watching him work. She never called it a lesson, but it stayed with her.

  4. 04

    Fruit growing near home

Later, Agnes made fruit wines from the fruit growing near their home — whatever was in season.

  5. 05

    The farmers' market years

She sold her small batches at her farmers' market stall, to friends and regulars who came back.

  6. 06

    Harvey steps in

As the buckets grew too heavy for her to lift, Harvey stepped in to help with production.

  7. 07

    The first one-bucket batch

Harvey made his first batch — one bucket — and the idea of carrying this forward began to take shape.

  8. 08

    How Avéya got its name

Avéya combines Harvey and Agnes: 'avey' from Harvey, and the final 'a' from Agnes.

  9. 09

Why the craft deserves to continue

This is a way of working with fruit that is worth keeping — not frozen in the past, but carried forward.

  10. 10

The future of Caribbean fruit-based alcohol

Long term, Avéya hopes to help define a distinct Caribbean fruit-based alcohol category, inspired by 'diven fwi'.

"Avéya is not an attempt to recreate the past exactly as it was. It is an attempt to carry the part that still matters into what comes next."
